Mindfulness in Daily Life Retreat
A bilingual urban retreat with
Daryl Lynn Ross & Pascal Auclair
September 16-22, 2012
Montreal, Quebec.
This non-residential insight meditation retreat includes a daylong retreat on Sunday, September 16, followed by early morning and evening meditation sessions from Monday to Friday, concluding with a half-day retreat on Saturday, September 22. Weekday sessions include meditation each morning and evening, a dharma talk and discussion each evening, and a dharma theme for practice and inquiry each day. Participants will commit to being present on the first and last day of the retreat (Sunday and Saturday), and will commit to missing a maximum of 3 sessions during the week (morning or evening sessions from Monday to Friday).
The emphasis is on bringing the practice into daily life through mindfulness and inquiry with an exploration of various themes relevant to daily life.
For those who are able to come early (6:00 until about 6:30), Jubar will be serving delicious vegan food for a reasonable cost. This is a good opportunity to form friendships and discuss how you are bringing the practice into daily life.
Daryl or Pascal will be available for individual meetings during the mornings if requested.
This retreat is taught in French and English with no translation. Pascal teaches in French and Daryl teaches in English, and participants are welcome to speak in the language of their choice. If your understanding is weak in either language, there will be some assistance from other participants to get the general idea of what’s being said, but not a complete translation. We invite you to have a sense of ease about the teachings and discussions if you are not fluent in both languages, and be confident that everyone will get what they need for their practice.
Location
Jubar, 3863 St-Laurent (south of Duluth), Suite 208
Logistics
Please bring a blanket or mat to sit on for the whole retreat since the floor is wooden. Please bring your cushion or bench if you sit on the floor. There are chairs if you prefer.
Meals
Please bring your own lunch for the daylong on Sunday.
If participants want to come before the evening meeting, the space will be open from 6 pm on. Those interested can purchase a vegan meal from Jubar or bring their own meal.
Cost
The cost for the retreat is $90.00. In the tradition of insight (vipassana) meditation retreats, this fee covers only the cost for the facility and administrative expenses. The teacher is paid by donation at the end of the retreat. For those who can pay more than the $90.00 the money will go directly to scholarships for those who cannot attend the retreat because of the cost. A few scholarships are available for some or all of the fee. Please make payment to True North Insight.
Please note that the retreat fees do not include payment to the teachers. Following the 2,500-year-old Buddhist tradition, the teachings are considered priceless and so are offered freely. At the end of the retreat you wil be invited to offer dana, or donations, to the teachers.

Daryl Lynn Ross has been engaged in meditation and other contemplative practices since 1972. She has practiced with Tibetan, Zen and Vipassana teachers, emphasizing insight practice in recent years. In 1980 the writings of Christian mystics led her to explore the Christian contemplative path, and she was later trained to offer guidance in this tradition. Daryl was a chaplain at Concordia University in Montreal from 1986-2008, where she offered regular instruction in meditation and Dharma study; since 2000 she has been leading insight meditation retreats in Montreal.
Pascal Auclair has been immersed in Buddhist practice and study since 1997, sitting retreats in Asia and America with revered monastics and lay teachers. He has been mentored by Joseph Goldstein and Jack Kornfield at the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Massachusetts and Spirit Rock Meditation Center in California, where he is now enjoying teaching retreats. Pascal also teaches in Quebec and in other Canadian provinces. His depth of insight, classical training, and creative expression all combine in a wise and compassionate presence.
